Nature and nurture

Nature and nurture

Aruba’s only restaurant specializing in natural and organic lunch and dinner offerings

When we speak with our guests about why they choose to return to Bucuti year after year, one of the top reasons we hear is that they enjoy the serene environment we’ve created. Establishing a tranquil haven has been essential to our guests’ satisfaction and was the driving force behind why we decided to become adults-only.

Many of our guests are seeking a healthier lifestyle and we are receiving more and more requests for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes, which our chef was always skillfully willing to provide on request.

As a result, we are expanding our efforts to provide a complete sense of wellness to our guests by introducing Elements Restaurant.  “Elements” will feature three menus for our guests to choose from including World Cuisine, Organic and Natural, and Vegan/Vegetarian menus for our guests to choose from.

While the island of Aruba is home to an array of unique dining venues, there appeared to be a lack of options that would appeal to vegetarians or those with dietary restrictions such as Celiac Disease (Gluten Free) and Vegans. Upon planning the retirement of our galleon shaped Pirate’s Nest restaurant a few years ago, it was a natural transition to plan and embark on a new culinary venture with our guests’ growing health needs top of mind.

Our research also showed that there was a need to offer genuine certified organic options and natural products, not only to please guests that have become more and more health-conscious, but also as an extension of our commitment to sustainability.

Creating such a place would be no small task.  As we began to establish a restaurant that would offer fresh ingredients, organic and natural foods and locally grown products, we faced a number of challenges. For starters, there are no suppliers on island that can provide all the products and ingredients needed, especially not in a regular supply. In response, we established an import company to ship in quality natural and organic meats, fruits, vegetables, and in the future, organic beverages to supplement the fresh products available on the island.

The biggest obstacle that our local farmers face is the island’s lack of natural water supply, which may come as a surprise to you. While our sea and dry climate make for a beautiful vacation, the dry climate creates quite a complication for local farmers. Aruba uses distilled seawater produced by reverse osmosis as tap and drinking water, and the resulting costs can be very high.  Additionally, distilled water lacks certain nutrients found in rainwater or river water, so they have to be added in the form of fertilizer.  Well-water on the island is brackish as a result of seawater seeping through coral rock, which eliminates that option as well.

Our special Organic and Natural menu will introduce certified organic products to the island.  We will publish the sources of our ingredients to guarantee you that the foods and beverages you order are genuinely CERTIFIED USA natural and/or organic.

Elements is the culmination of the passion, talent and creativity of Kurt Hoffmann, as well as the resort’s commitment to responding to the growing health needs of our guests.

We have created a selection of creative and delicious dishes to please a wide variety of palates, preferences and dietary needs.  We look forward to hearing your feedback as you experience our latest resort enhancement at your very own “home away from home”.  Elements is scheduled to open its doors on August 12, 2013 for “Natural and Organic Dining by the Sea”.
